August is almost gone. It will soon be September. September always heralds the end of summer, the start of fall, and early days of the school year. This September is like no other, with COVID-19 creating all kinds of complications that alter the annual routine of starting a new school year.
September is also Library Card Sign-Up Month. We are collaborating with the two school districts that lie completely within our service area – Meyersdale Area School District, and Salisbury-Elk Lick School District – to provide students with Meyersdale Public Library cards. Normally, parents must come to the library to sign for their children to have cards, but we are streamlining the process to allow parents to sign children up without coming into the library.
Several other school districts lie partially within our service area. We are eager to sign up adult patrons for library cards, too! If you live within any of the following municipalities, you are in our service area, and we are your home library:
Addison Township Allegheny Township Black Township Brothersvalley Township Calimont Borough Elk Lick Township Fairhope Township Garrett borough Greenville Township Larimer Township Meyersdale Borough Middlecreek Township Milford Township Northampton Township Salisbury Borough Southampton Township Summit Township Upper Turkeyfoot Township Wellersburg Borough
In addition, if you live anywhere else in Somerset County, you are entitled to a free library card here, as well as at the library for the service area in which you reside.
Having a library card provides access to the collection within our walls AND to a great many online resources. Google doesn’t have all the answers. Many online materials can be accessed only through proprietary websites and databases behind paywalls. However, a free library card breaks down some of those barriers. Sign up today!
